Seamus grew up in Castlebar, County Mayo. Cycling wasn't
something he chose to specialise in — it was just part of life
there. The roads were quiet, the countryside was everywhere,
and a bike meant freedom. That connection to cycling never
left him.
After completing his degree in Sports Science at the
University of Limerick in 2008, he initially worked in sports
facility management. But desk work didn't suit him. In 2011,
he transitioned into outdoor lifestyle journalism — a decision
that let him combine his technical knowledge with his genuine
passion for getting people active.
Over the past 16 years, he's become widely recognised for
practical, detailed guides to cycling routes suitable for
older adults. He's not writing from theory. He's personally
cycled thousands of kilometres across Irish greenways and
quiet roads. His expertise in the Great Western Greenway comes
from extensive personal use and interviews with hundreds of
older cyclists who've traversed this iconic 42-kilometre
route.
Seamus believes that age shouldn't limit outdoor adventure.
His writing reflects a genuine commitment to helping older
adults discover the joy and health benefits of cycling —
without unnecessary risk or frustration.
